John Rossbach & Andrew Van Norstrand

Veteran performer John Rossbach and 18 year old Andrew Van Norstrand share an on-stage chemistry that makes their traditional American folk, old time country and bluegrass music performances unforgettable! Their exceptional mastery of the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, nyckelharpa, banjo and foot percussion digs into the roots of Rock & Roll music and shows audiences of all ages that there's much more to music than MTV. As fellow members of the bluegrass quintet, John Rossbach & Chestnut Grove, their playing on the new CD, From The Mountains To The Mills, prompted Chicago Tribune critic, Dave Royko, to call it one of the most tasteful releases of the year.

JOHN ROSSBACH can lift you with the lilt of an old time mandolin melody, rivet you with a lowdown slide-guitar blues and fire you up with a driving banjo breakdown! John's egregious puns and outrageous tall tales thrill audiences of all ages. Born in the mountains of West Virginia, John relocated to Upstate New York in 1984. He is best known as the bandleader for the highly-acclaimed bluegrass ensemble, John Rossbach & Chestnut Grove. He's received eight Meet the Composer awards and appeared on numerous radio and television programs for the Nashville Network, the Public Broadcasting System, the BBC, CBS, and the Canadian Broadcasting System. He's recorded on the largest independent label in the world, Rounder Records, and also on the Copper Creek, Marimac and Alcazar labels. He is the staff guitarist for Midwest Banjo Camp and for Mandolin Camp North, Banjo Camp North and Old Time Camp North. John worked at the prestigious Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia for twelve years. John has performed at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, the Champlain Valley Folk Festival, Old Songs, Winterhawk, the Ashokan Dance Camp, the Brandywine Mountain Music Convention and the West Virginia Appalachian Stringband Festival.

ANDREW VanNORSTRAND's musical psyche must be the reincarnation of some former musical sage. He plays with total conviction and spontaneous wit showing an astonishing command of six instruments and a well-developed intuition for several musical genres. Having already performed on stage with many of the luminaries in his field including Molly Mason & Jay Unger, this home-schooled boy has already become a Central New York musical legend at the age of nineteen. Andrew's repertoire combines elements of the Irish, French Canadian, Appalachian, Bluegrass, Swing, Scandinavian, Jazz and Gypsy fiddle traditions with his own original compositions. He was awarded the high honor of a Folk Arts Apprenticeship from the New York State Council on the Arts. He's received youth scholarships for the Ashokan Dance Camp and from West Virginia's prestigious Augusta Heritage Program. Andrew, and his fifteen-year-old brother, Noah, an amazing multi-instrumentalist in his own right, recently electrified a new national audience with their own original compositions on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion".
